| Quality Management System |

| Caterpillar sites involved
in the production of marine engines employ a quality management system
according to ISO 9001:2000, certified either by Det Norske Veritas
(DNV) or by Lloyd’s Register (LR) and renewed at regular intervals.
In addition, every site is audited regularly by all the major Marine
Classification Societies (MCS) with regard to “factory approval”
and “works approval”. |

| Factory Approvals and Works Approvals |
| Factory approval is a prerequisite for
all marine engine business and certifies the |
| process of engine assembly
and testing. Works approval confirms that manufacturing, logistics
and engine parts comply with MCS’ requirements. Works approval
even permits Caterpillar to stamp engine parts and certificates on
behalf of the MCS’s. |

| Type Approvals |
Cat and MaK marine engines
are available in various ratings tailored to customers’ needs.
The engine ratings have been “type approved” by the MCS’s.
Comprehensive analyses of engine temperatures, pressures and emissions
taken at standard load increments, plus thorough inspection of the
main engine components for visible wear guarantee reliability and
longevity
in engine operation. |
